Our CFI, Butterfly Dave, favours the conservative approach; active defensive flight planning and control inputs, training pilots to keep the wing in the flight envelope and to recover smartly from unstable configurations. It is about flight safety, not acro, a fairground ride or a boob tube video lark. We explore theory and practice of deflations, rapid descent manoevers, and the dynamics of pitch and roll. Theory of dynamic full stall and spin is covered in detail, however, full stall and developed spin practical is not intended for our first level course (they cause inexperienced pilots more problems than they cure, in our experience). Point of stall recovery and point of spin recovery are included in the exercises. Cross Country. A carefully prepared progression from the flat ground to short flights with turns and planned landings. Closely supervised flying on the school sites. Time enough to gain a good insight into the paragliding sport and lifestyle. Most pilots take four or five days to complete this stage and achieve their BHPA Elementary Pilot rating. CLUB PILOT COURSE Soaring for extended periods, staying up in the air, gaining height, landing back at the take off; real flying starts with the Club Pilot rating. At this stage you are able to fly with your local club coach,and technically do not need to continue in school! Our advice however is to stay with us and join our Pilot Club.
