Solstice Cup is an annual
paragliding get together with a gentle competitive edge, intended
to be accessible to novice pilots and provide an introduction to
competition, flying in a fairly smooth, predictable air. Ridge soaring
tasks are flown along the coastal cliffs of the Isle of Wight. Gliders
should be entry level EN A/B, DHV/LTF 1/ 1-2 equivalent to score,
higher level pilots can borrow a wing or fly the tasks as wind technicians/monitors
without scoring.
1. Total Airtime - Your
best five flights of each day score. Fly all day and clock up significant
airtime, FLYING, its what you love to do!!
2. Cats Cradle Distance
- Your best five flights each day score. Distances adds up between
marked turnpoints which you choose. Each turnpoint can only be claimed
once in each flight. Think carefully and plan your route.Big
picture tactical and strategic decision making needed along with
flying skills and stamina. ( The wind and tide change during the
day and some points are harder to get back from).
3. XXX Jousting - Ground
handling comp (with very lively XXX wings if appropriate), one on
one, knockout.
4. Precision Drop - deliver
a small cargo (eg potato) to a precise taget (eg bucket) without
your feet touching the ground!
5. Testival - If you
would like to test fly a particular wing, get in touch as soon as
possible, we may be able to arrange it for you! Importers like to
